WHEN 29-year-old performance poet Baylee Forbes relocated from the Gold Coast to Lake Cathie earlier this year, she was in search of cultural connections.
The new mum values spending time with other creative women.
“I love seeing women connect in creative spaces,” she said.
“I feel like we have a biological need to create, and there is a simple joy to be found being in a creative space.”
Setting up a women’s writing circle was a natural fit for someone who has spent a lifetime journalling, with the challenges she has experienced guiding her writing.
After posting on several local Facebook groups, Ms Forbes was delighted to receive extensive interest in the project from locals. Currently 25 women across a wide demographic are keen to participate.
“The circle is designed to support the writing process,” Ms Forbes said.
“I also hope to gather enough women to have other regular artistic events.”
Based on feedback, the group will commence with a 90-minute session on a weekday morning, with another event on a Saturday or Sunday.
Ms Forbes believes the concept has unlimited potential and sees a need locally for child-friendly, community-based events that appeal to a broad cross-section of women.
