MOST places around NSW and Australia ditched and retired the old local car ferries 60 years ago and built bridges across the river.
Ever heard of Forster to Tuncurry?
Why doesn’t Port Macquarie have a modern, thriving town where many people can live on the North Shore?
It’s room for the town to grow.
Why isn’t there a bridge from Fern Bank Creek to Shoreline Drive, and a proper bitumen road up Maria River Road past Limeburners Creek National Park connecting with the Crescent Head and Kempsey areas?
And, before you ask, for the number of times a boat goes up the river, it can be an opening bridge or one like Stockton.
The operation of two ferries, not just one, is archaic and must cost the Port Macquarie Hastings Council a fortune.
It’s like the Hospital Roundabout. Go to Melbourne and Sydney and see the massive infrastructure and flyovers those cities have!
That’s what we need, plus a raised road near there going through the floodplain, linking to the new bridge across the river.
Just like the Kempsey Bypass. Long overdue.
