THE 2026 Laurieton United Services Fishing Club Bonanza saw a massive turnout, bringing together locals and visitors for an unforgettable celebration of the sport.
The weigh-in was a true highlight, with a lively crowd cheering on anglers as they showcased their best catches.
The talk of the day was undoubtedly Lynn Lugg’s massive 97cm flathead, which was safely released after being recorded.
However, the real stars of the show were the juniors.
Their hauls of bream, whiting, and tailor were nothing short of impressive, proving that the future of our fishing community is in very capable hands.
Their determination certainly gave the adults a run for their money.
The anticipation is already growing for another year of great catches and community spirit.
As for the 42nd Garmin Port Macquarie Golden Lure, it faced a challenging start, with adverse conditions forcing a two-day postponement.
To ensure everyone got their time on the water, the sessions originally scheduled for Saturday and Sunday were moved to the mid-week slot.
When competition finally commenced on Monday, the action was immediate.
Anglers reported several Black Marlin tagged off South West Rocks, while those venturing further offshore found success with Striped and Blue Marlin.
As the tournament continues, optimism is high that the weather will remain favourable, allowing for a productive week and a crowded scoreboard.
