FOUNDING Hastings Community Radio presenter Marcia Wells recorded 40 years on the Mid Coast airwaves during a 2wayfm presenters meeting on 30 May.
Ms Wells’ career kicked off with broadcasting from a caravan at Pappinbarra in1986 and playing her favourite Australian country music from vinyl records on turntables.
She is a veteran of many moves of the station’s broadcasting addresses and now calls the current site at Cameron Street in Wauchope home.
Ms Wells is hailed as a volunteer who is loyal, always ready to help, and has Australian culture running through her veins.
She has volunteered her time in support of all aspects of Hasting Community radio including fund-raising activities, raising $1600 for the Cancer Council on one occasion.
Ms Wells’ much-loved ‘Where country is’ show, which features predominately Australian country music, can be heard on 2wayfm on Mondays between 12 noon and 2.00pm.
2wayfm now also boasts presenter Wayne Jones – a volunteer with an extensive background in community radio who recently moved to the area from Inverell.
According to a 2wayfm spokesperson, Mr Jones was a founding member of starfm in 2008 and prior to that he broadcast at 2mbs at St Leonards in Sydney.
Mr Jones has two programs. One is ‘Retro Rewind’, which can be heard on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 2.00pm to 4.00pm. During this segment listeners are taken back to the big hits of the 50s to 80s eras and receive snippets of news from those years.
Mr Jones’s second show is ‘Sunday Breakfast’, which runs from 6.00am to 9.00am and features an easy, laid-back style of music.
2wayfm’s major fund-raiser, known as the ‘radiothon’, will be held between 22 and 28 June. Prizes will be up for grabs.
