“YOU never knew you needed it – until you see it.”
That’s the philosophy of Steph McMahon, one of the women behind the first Wear It Again Market, which will be held at Laurieton Services Club on October 18.
The market came about when Ms McMahon and friend Donna-Jane Wilson decided to build something they felt their community was missing.
“We decided to share in our passion for pre-loved clothing,” Ms McMahon said.
“We’d seen it done in other areas and thought, why not? Let’s give it a go.
“We were bombarded with interest and overwhelmed with the response from people wanting to be part of our event.”
Around 30 stallholders are eager to share their ‘treasures’.
The two organisers are confident the stallholders will have a wide selection of garments on sale, ranging from children’s clothing to men’s and women’s clothes.
Both share a passion for sustainability.
“We hope our market can help alleviate some of the massive amount of landfill,” Ms McMahon said.
“We’re well aware that people are under financial stress.
“Wear It Again will be a safe place for people to come together and share their treasures, and ease the cost of buying clothes.
“We’re confident that the kind of people who’ll attend will embrace our values of ‘second-chance’ clothing.”
Laurieton United Services Club has enthusiastically supported the event.
“Events coordinator Jaimee – Lee has been amazing, offering guidance and assistance from the start,” McMahon added.
Some stallholders will also have card payment available, and the club has an ATM.
To support the markets’ sustainability ethos, patrons are asked to bring their own reusable bags.
