GROWING up in Australia, getting a bike for Christmas and learning to ride is a rite of passage for many children.
However, increasing cost of living pressures can make this a challenge for families.
Kendall Blues RLFC is partnering with Aussie Battlers in its successful Bikes for Kids initiative, which provides brand-new bicycles to local families in need in time for Christmas.
“The Kendall Blues are both proud and humbled to be in a position to support worthy causes while helping those in need within our local community,” a club spokesperson said.
The club’s annual Charity Day will be held at the Kendall Showground on 27 June, with the mighty Blues taking on the Laurieton Stingrays at 2:30pm.
Following the day’s football, supporters are invited to continue the celebrations at the Royal Hotel Kew, where a traditional charity auction will be held, followed by live entertainment.
A range of items and prizes have been donated by local businesses as well as one-of-a-kind auction items, including a custom-made surfboard featuring the Kendall Blues logo, all jerseys worn by Kendall Blues players in the match against Laurieton, and a collection of signed rugby league jerseys from the NSW Blues, the Manly Sea Eagles, the Penrith Panthers, and the Cronulla Sharks.
The club is still seeking additional donations and auction items. All funds raised on the day will be split between Bikes For Kids and Motor Neurone Disease Australia, which helps fund support, advocacy and research into MND.
If you are a local business wishing to support the cause or simply have an item that could help raise valuable funds, your contribution would be gratefully received.
