ELITE Mid North Coast players Di Mascord, Claire Thurlow, and Natalie West tasted victory in last weekend’s International Tag Federation World Cup event in Coffs Harbour.
The trio were members of the Oztag Tagaroos, one of a record 200 teams from 26 countries taking part in the competition.
Mascord and Thurlow debuted for Australia, while West represented the nation for the second time.
Despite poor weather turning some of the grounds to mud and only two group practice sessions in the lead-up, the Tagaroos emerged victorious.
“We played Great Britain in the final,” West told News Of The Area.
“At full time it was one all, so we went to extra time.
“Usually there are eight players from each team on the field, but in extra time there are only five, with no subs.”
West was one of the five Tagaroos.
“We scored in our first set of six,” she said.
“Great Britain had a right-of-reply set of six. They didn’t score, but threw everything at us.”
Next up for the three local players is the 2026 Australian Oztag Nationals Championships in Coffs Harbour from 13 – 15 November.
