WELL known local performers Mal and Sharon Salter have been inducted into the Australian Country Music Stars of Fame, joining celebrated artists including Slim Dusty, Chad Morgan and Jimmy Little.
“We weren’t expecting this award and when we heard the news, we [were] shocked at first and then very proud to receive it,” Sharon told News Of The Area.
The honour recognises Mal and Sharon’s dedication, passion and lasting contribution to country music across the region and beyond.
The duo, widely known as Mal and Shaz, have built a career spanning 32 years in country music, with the past 16 years spent as champions of the Camden Haven country music community.
They are regular performers at the Kew Country Club, appearing once a month on a Sunday, where they continue to draw loyal audiences and support local live music.
In addition to entertaining country music enthusiasts, Mal and Shaz are well known for their charity fundraising efforts, using their performances to support a range of community causes.
Their induction into the Australian Country Music Stars of Fame acknowledges their longevity in the industry and the impact they have made through community engagement and generosity.
The award highlights the strength of regional talent and the important role local artists play in keeping the genre alive.
For the Camden Haven community, the recognition is a source of pride, celebrating two performers whose music and commitment have helped shape the local country music scene for more than a decade.
