THERE was plenty of laughter, dancing and friendship on Thursday, 30 July, as Community at 3 held its Annual Volunteers’ Morning Tea at The Jetty Café, Laurieton United Services Club (LUSC), to thank the amazing volunteers who give so much to the Camden Haven community.
Most people know Community at 3 for its free weekly BBQ held every Wednesday at Kew Country Club, but what happens behind the scenes is just as important.
Throughout the year, volunteers provide support to people experiencing homelessness, domestic and family support, emergency food and household items, transport assistance, financial help, health and wellbeing support, pastoral care and a friendly face for those doing it tough.
The morning tea was organised by volunteer and committee member Cheryl, with help from fellow committee member Robyn, giving everyone the chance to relax and spend some time together away from the busy Wednesday BBQs.
One of the highlights of the morning was a fun twist on trivia. Instead of sitting around answering questions, everyone had to get up, mingle and chat while finding people who matched different clues.
Whether it was someone younger than them, someone who drove a red car, had a holiday planned, played a musical instrument or even someone who had been skydiving, it had everyone talking, laughing and getting to know one another a little better.
There were plenty of delicious treats to enjoy, including fresh fruit platters generously donated by LUSC, along with party pies, sausage rolls, dim sims, scones, homemade biscuits and plenty more.
Of course, no Community at 3 gathering would be complete without a bit of fun. Before long, the music was playing and the dance floor came alive with volunteers twisting along to Let’s Twist Again.
There were plenty of laughs, especially when Ann nearly took a tumble, while Zillah’s energetic moves had everyone smiling.
The men weren’t about to miss out either, soon joining in for a lively performance of the YMCA.
Guests also heard from LUSC General Manager Matt Haack and Community at 3 Vice Chairman Glenn Maas, who both thanked the volunteers for the incredible difference they make in the lives of so many people throughout the Camden Haven community.
It was a wonderful morning celebrating friendships, sharing lots of laughs and recognising the volunteers whose kindness, generosity and dedication continue to make Community at 3 such a special part of our community.
