Fabulous Afternoon Group meet at Camden Haven Community College

The Fabulous Afternoon Group celebrate receiving their end of year certificates.

EVERY Monday, a friendly group of six local ladies meet at Camden Haven Community College under the guidance of teacher Kylie Brittliffe, for lessons in foundation skills and learning, calling themselves ‘The Fabulous Afternoon Group’.

Birthdays and personal achievements are eagerly anticipated and celebrated, with two of the members proud, champion ten-pin bowlers who have travelled to Adelaide for competitions.

This close-knit group has fostered strong and supportive relationships, and they regard it as a safe space where stories can be shared, and worries discussed and worked through.

Kylie told News Of The Area, “I love teaching this class, everyone gets on so well and they are so encouraging of each other in everything they do.

“Last year we had a focus on how to be safe when sharing personal information about ourselves, as well as how to navigate friendships and social interactions, which is something that can be challenging for all of us.”

Working on computer skills is very popular, with digital projects designed to align with individual personal interests, and an emphasis on literacy, numeracy and confidence in public speaking.

Member Chloe Kirkman told News Of The Area, “I’m a musician and I perform under my stage name Fully Kirkman.”

“I write all my own songs, and I get inspiration from everything I see around me.

“At the moment I’m working on a PowerPoint about Patsy Cline and getting ready to put out a new CD with my songs.”

Plans are underway for an excursion to Coles, where time will be spent learning about pricing differences and how advertising influences purchasing.

There will also be sessions that focus on budgeting, paying bills, and building upon independent living skills.
