Luke Hadfield re-elected unopposed as president of the Camden Haven Chamber of Commerce

LUKE Hadfield was re-elected unopposed as president of the Camden Haven Chamber of Commerce at its Annual General Meeting on 13 October.

The previous year has been an active one for the Chamber and its executive, which comprises representatives of local businesses and the community.

One of the Chamber’s most significant undertakings this year was its response to the Draft Laurieton Town Centre Master Plan.

An extensive consultation process involved individual meetings, discussions with businesses and community groups, a business breakfast, and a well-attended town hall-style community meeting.

The feedback informed a detailed Chamber submission addressing matters including parking, traffic movement, pedestrian access, planning controls, the Laurieton foreshore, heavy vehicle movements, town entrances and the ongoing presentation and maintenance of the town centre.

“While not everyone agreed on every individual proposal, the consultation demonstrated how strongly our community cares about our future,” Hadfield said.

“It was important that the chamber provided a constructive avenue through which businesses and residents could understand the plans and have their views heard.”

New initiatives by the group, including an innovative Community Connection Day and the popular Laurieton Riverwalk Markets have contributed to strong growth in chamber membership. There was also a significant financial improvement.

Reflecting on the past 12 months and its achievements, Hadfield said supporting local businesses and promoting the region remained central to the chamber’s endeavours.

“Our local businesses continue to face significant pressures, and the Chamber has worked to ensure their concerns are heard while maintaining strong relationships with the people and organisations who can help address them,” he said.

Community at 3 patron Chantelle Ansell was elected vice president.
“I’m passionate about the Camden Haven area and proud to live here,” she said.

“I’m looking forward to continuing to support our local businesses and working together to make our community an even better place to live, work and do business.”

The new executive will meet soon to start planning for the coming 12 months, with street beautification a high priority.
