DESPITE being just 23-years-old, Middle Brother resident Jazmin Madden is already making a big name for herself in the world of cattle breeding.
In 2019 she launched the Cedar Creek Angus stud, developing a breeding program based on a complex set of genetics.
The program has resulted in the award-winning Tattykeel Miss Essence U25, who is currently accompanied in competition by a calf at foot named Cedar Creek Hudson Whiskey W3.
Calf at foot refers to an unweaned calf that remains with its mother in the showring, helping to demonstrate the cow’s maternal ability as well as the quality of its progeny.
“I have a passion for agriculture, and this is the pinnacle of owning and showing cattle,” she said of developing the stud.
“It involves carefully choosing genetics and I really enjoy liaising with other studs to breed the best possible animal.
“There is a lot of science behind this including IVF and artificial insemination, Australia has some good Angus genetics as does Canada.”
Competition preparation begins three months in advance, and this year Jazmin and Tattykeel have achieved Supreme Beef Exhibit at the Wingham Show, Supreme Beef Exhibit and Supreme Angus Exhibit at Wauchope Show, and third in class at the Sydney Royal Easter Show.
Also working at Wingham Beef Exports, Jazmin currently has thirteen head of cattle with her long-term goal to sell top quality cattle and become an authority on Angus stud breeding.
