Three recognised in inaugural Bonny Hills Community Awards

BONNY Hills residents Bill Howell, Melinda Robinson and Brian Barker, have been recognised for their service to the local community.

They are the recipients of the inaugural Bonny Hills Progress Association’s Community Awards, which were presented on 17 March following the association’s annual general meeting.

The meeting included updates on key projects.

Re-elected Vice-President Kathy Regan encouraged residents to “have their say” about the overdue Rainbow Beach Reserve Draft Masterplan, referring to it as the ‘investment map’ for the future of the iconic area.

She also emphasised the need to keep applying pressure on governments to begin planning for an overpass at the intersection of Houston Mitchell Drive and the Pacific Highway.

Members also heard that the quality of water entering the ocean from the Waste Water Treatment Plant was generally high, except after heavy rain.

This can cause overload and low quality run-off.

Ongoing delays in diverting output for use in sports fields and as garden water in new residential areas was described as frustrating.

Investigations into the plant life around Bonny Hills have revealed its remarkable beauty and variety, with booklets, maps and a database in the pipeline.

Members also heard how the fifth Bonny Hills Art Prize was a great success with increasing interest from artists and the public, year-on-year, and profits going into community projects.

Strong support by local businesses and an army of volunteers underpinned this success.
