WHEN automotive secretary Penny Peak attended her first ever car rally in Sydney and met engineer Geoff, little did she know that they would get married and go on to celebrate 60 years of happiness last month.
The devoted couple, who are both 82, lived in Hornsby for most of their lives before they relocated to Bonny Hills 15 years ago to enjoy retirement.
Proud parents to sons Darren, born in 1970, and Jamie, born in 1973, they also had a daughter who tragically passed away at birth.
Their family has grown to include two granddaughters, two grandsons and a great-granddaughter.
Penny is well regarded for her many years of Rotary community service, and the beautiful sets of sheets and towels she embroiders are highly prized wedding gifts.
Geoff taught Latin dancing for many years, with the couple regulars in ballroom dance classes, something which became their favourite pastime.
These days they enjoy gardening, going to the beach and bushwalking, with Geoff a keen reader and Penny an avid painter.
When asked about her enduring love for Geoff, Penny told news Of The Area, “I love that he is so very clever, anything around the house that needs fixing he does it.
“Currently he is renovating a motorhome that we bought recently, once he has finished our first trip will be down to Sydney to see our second great-grandchild, who is due soon.”
Their marriage took place at St Phillips Church in Caringbah on 29 January 1966, with the bride wearing a stunning wedding dress which she made herself.
They attribute their long marriage to perseverance and, most of all, patience, and celebrated the milestone with close friends over a beautiful meal at the Stunned Mullet in Port Macquarie.
