Letter to the Editor: the Blame Game

DEAR News Of The Area

FIRST the Federal Coalition blamed Prime Minister Anthony Albanese for the Bondi terror attack, highlighting how low politics has sunk.

This couldn’t be better expressed than in the pre-Christmas newsletter of our Federal MP Alison Penfold who wrote in relation to anti-Semitism and hate speech legislation: “the failure of the government to act now is writ large with blood on our streets”.

To me that is unacceptable because, sadly, how could any legislation and anything any government could do prevent the intense racial hatred behind this tragedy.

The Coalition screamed far and wide for the government to get this legislation organised, which they did.

Next, three National Party members crossed the floor and voted against the legislation, leading to the ensuing chaos and their split with the Liberal Party.

Then, of all things, National Party Leader David Littleproud… publicly blamed Anthony Abanese and Sussan Ley’s leadership (of all times on National Mourning Day).

The true cause of it is the inability of his party and the Liberals to agree on policies, the bottom line being dissent in his own party.

While the two parties are focussed on fighting within themselves and with each other, how can serious issues that need to be addressed be dealt with?

Imagine what it could be like if politicians from all parties worked constructively together in our interests.

In the last government term under Peter Dutton, the Coalition opposed most of the things that have made our lives easier.

This includes cheaper medicines, more medicines covered in the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme, fully bulk-billed GP visits, fee-free TAFE, help for first homebuyers, and relief from higher education debts for three million students.

The result? Their negativity saw a massive loss of seats including Peter Dutton’s.

Have lessons been learnt or have things changed?

No, the continual opposing, political pointscoring and blame games continue.

Where does the gutter politics end?

When will these politicians focus on their responsibilities and act with maturity and integrity?
