MOTORISTS travelling through the Camden Haven this week may have done a double take after spotting a man dressed in a cat costume pulling a wheelbarrow behind a pushbike.
Known simply as “Catman”, Japanese adventurer Kentaro Jin has become something of an internet sensation during his extraordinary journey across Australia.
The colourful traveller has spent more than two years walking thousands of kilometres across the country, dressed in his trademark leopard-print outfit and pushing a wheelbarrow carrying his supplies.
His journey has attracted a substantial following online and seen him welcomed by communities across the nation.
Catman says his walk is about adventure, meeting people and experiencing Australia at a slower pace.
Along the way he has documented his travels through social media, sharing stories and encounters from remote communities, regional towns and major cities alike.
This week his journey brought him through the Camden Haven, where local residents were quick to spot the unusual traveller.
Laurieton resident Jared Knowles said it was exciting to see someone who has captured so much attention across Australia pass through the region.
“It was cool seeing a bit of an internet sensation make his way through our little part of the world,” Mr Knowles said.
“You see stories and videos of Catman popping up all over the country, so it was pretty funny to suddenly spot him walking through Camden Haven.”
While Catman may only have spent a short time passing through the area, his visit certainly left an impression on those lucky enough to see him.
As his remarkable journey continues, the Camden Haven can now add itself to the long list of Australian communities visited by one of the country’s most unusual travellers.
