CAMDEN Haven Community at 3 is an institution in the area, providing support and assistance year-round to those in need.
With the temperature cooling, the organisation has launched its Winter Appeal.
The appeal is now in full swing. Local knitting and crochet groups have donated handmade blankets, beanies, and scarves.
Other donations have included doonas, blankets, and coats to help people doing it tough in the cold.
Organising committee member Robyn L’Huillier told News Of The Area that the institution was seeing people who had previously not needed help.
“Petrol prices, interest rate hikes, and the cost-of-living crisis have increased the need,” Ms L’Huillier said.
“We have also had an influx of people turning up to our Wednesday afternoon BBQ, who have perhaps been isolated or lonely.”
The organisation is seeking donations of good-quality queen-size flannelette sheets, pantry staples for emergency grocery packs, Cup-a-Soup sachets, curry powder, rice, sugar, jam, sweet biscuits, Sao-style biscuits, pasta, and long-life milk.
Items can be dropped to Kew Corner Store, or picked up locally by arrangement.
Alternatively, donations can be made online to communityat3.org.au/donate with winter appeal as the reference.
Those in need of groceries or assistance via referral to other services, are encouraged to attend the free Community at 3 BBQ held weekly on Wednesdays at 2.30pm, Kew Country Club, 185 Kendall Road, Kew.
