FESTIVE cheer was delivered to residents at Laurieton Lakeside Nursing Home and Lake Cathie Manor earlier this month, with Christmas visits that brought smiles, music and laughter to both facilities.
The visits were organised by Simplicity Funerals, which also hosts a monthly birthday celebration for all residents.
Joining the celebrations were the Grinch (also known as Chan Ansell from News Of The Area), Mrs Claus Michelle Freeman, and Sandy the elf from Simplicity Funerals.
Together, they spent time singing Christmas carols, celebrating December birthdays and sharing meaningful moments with residents.
True to character, the Grinch added a little mischief – playing games, laying on beds and attempting to steal walkers and the occasional cup of tea – much to the amusement of residents and staff alike.
Mrs Claus and the cheerful elf kept the Christmas spirit flowing, handing out sweet treats, dancing and ensuring everyone felt included.
“Christmas is a time for kindness, connection and giving back, and these visits were a wonderful reminder of just how much joy simple moments can bring,” said Michelle Freeman.
“Singing familiar songs, sharing laughs and spending time together created memories that meant as much to us as they did to the residents.
“Being welcomed into Laurieton Lakeside Nursing Home and Lake Cathie Manor was a privilege, and it was heart-warming to see the smiles, laughter and participation from residents throughout the visits.
“Small gestures – a song, a dance, a sweet treat or a shared joke – can make a big difference, particularly at this time of year.”
