Club North Haven celebrates a new bowls green

CLUB North Haven recently opened a new green, with 28 of the club’s regular social bowlers taking to its seven rinks for the first time.

Last year, the Club’s Board of Directors agreed to a proposal by Bowls Co-ordinator Glen Dickson to replace its two decades-old green, which was showing its age.

The new green is a sand-filled synthetic surface, giving members a quality modern surface to play on.

Club North Haven has approximately 220 bowling members, known as the North Haven Hornets – or more affectionately as ‘The Hive’.

In 2024, the women’s division of the Hornets made it to State finals, as did the Open Grade 4s side in 2025.

Additionally, the Open Grade 1 of the Men’s division will soon represent North Haven at the State Finals in Yamba,.

“We’re very proud of what the Hornets have achieved,” Mr Dickson said.

“By having three quality greens, Club North Haven can continue to attract major events to the area, bringing more visitors to the town.”

Mr Dickson revealed that the club will host a major event in 2028 that will require eight greens – the club’s three, alongside another five between Club Lake Cathie and Kew Country Club.

“For me, replacing the green wasn’t just about replacing an old surface,” Mr Dickson added.

“It was about looking at where we want Club North Haven to be in the future.”
