Picture perfect: local photographer reflects on the Camden Haven’s beauty

RAUL Orcajo has dedicated hundreds of hours to capturing images of the Camden Haven.

Specialising in landscapes, Orcajo said it was his connection with nature that drew him to photography.

He loves capturing the natural beauty of the district, where he made his home 15  years ago.

Every image is part of a ‘grand adventure’: checking the time of sunrise and sunset, moon phases, tide changes and even cloud composition.

Reflecting on his favourite shots of this year, Mr Orcajo chose the magic Milky Way scene captured at Crowdy Bay, alongside a drone shot of a pastel Camden Haven sunrise. A favourite from the past is the Milky Way captured over a sea lit up with bioluminescence in Uruguay.

Orcajo has countless stories about the way his images connect with people.

“One day at the markets, a person got a bit emotional,” he said.

“He bought a canvas because the image captured the place where he used to fish with his father when he was a kid.”

His photo books and calendars have sold here and overseas.

“One person ordered printed photographs from England,” he said.

“He wanted to hang them in their home to remind them of the beautiful place where they grew up.”

Orcajo is not losing focus as those who follow his work wonder what his lens will capture next year.

“I feel very proud and happy to live in such an amazing place,” he said.

“I hope locals feel the same way when they look at my photographs and feel a connection.

“That’s what I am trying to achieve.”
