Laurieton couple cooks up support for RFS Brigades

FRANK Deguara embodies the Lions Club’s motto “We Serve”.

Last year he and his wife Jeanette raised funds for the flood-affected areas of Taree, and this month they set their sights on assisting the RFS Brigades at Camden Haven and Lake Cathie.

With the support of Hometown manager Mark Ennor, and fellow residents, a fundraising BBQ was held onsite.

Kylie Brown, Community Engagement Officer for Lake Cathie RFS told News Of The Area, “for us it was a great connection point with the people at Hometown as we were able to give them advice around how to prepare for a bushfire – and the BBQ was definitely worth the hype.

“The funds will help us with basic necessities to maintain the station and the provision of resources for community education.”

Entertainment was provided by members of the Port Macquarie pipe band, and vintage cars supplied by Barry Burton were on display.

For Frank the day was a huge success, “we wanted to help the RFS volunteers who are just a lovely bunch of people and do so much for the community.

“The generosity of the people who live here is incredible.”

The Deguaras raised $1760.60 to be shared by the two brigades.
