Laurieton Rotary Club’s annual Winter Book Sale a ripper success

THE Rotary Club of Laurieton’s annual Winter Book Sale finished on Sunday, and book coordinator Philip Town was delighted with the response.

During the past six months, thousands of books have been donated by the community, with hundreds more arriving each day of the sale.

“They say it takes a village to raise a child, but it takes a community to run such a successful book sale,” Mr Town said.

“We had a huge amount of help from the Camden Haven SES unit and the Mens’ Shed, who worked alongside our club members to transport 500 boxes of books down to Laurieton United Services Club in readiness for opening day.”

Funds raised from the twice-a-year book sales are funnelled back into the community via donations and grants.

The club has provided financial support to the SES, Food Connect, and Community at 3.

Camden Haven SES Unit Commander Carolyn Dobson told News Of The Area that her unit loved helping Rotary, and were “always there for our community”.

“The SES is not just about assisting during weather events,” she said. “We turn up, no matter what our residents need.”

While figures are still being tallied, Mr Town believes that the figures from this sale will surpass last year’s.

Preparations have already begun for the January sale.

Donations of good-quality books, jigsaw puzzles and DVDs can be dropped to BIGA+ Tile Power Laurieton, or for collection call Rotarians Alan Anderson on 0428488417 or John Saunders on 0409552087.
