ALICE Yunchan’s love of writing began as a child in China where she would capture her dreams in notebooks.

Today that has burgeoned into a practice in Port Macquarie that blends personal reflection, creative writing and community engagement.

She holds a Master of Creative Enterprise (Arts Administration) from Central Queensland University (2009) and a Bachelor of Chinese Language and Literature from Foshan University, China (2006).

This academic background underpins her ability to design, deliver, and sustain innovative arts programs that balance creative integrity with community impact.

In 2024 Ms Yunchan founded the Blue Feather Writing Circle, through which she facilitates inclusive and accessible creative writing workshops.

This year her workshops have explored the themes of Starting with Light, Meeting the Shadows, Seeing with New Eyes, and Discovering Our Gifts & Going Forward.

The pieces of writing generated through the workshops have been passed to local artists for a creative collaboration as they are translated into paintings, music, textiles, weaving, sculpture and other artistic forms.

Ms Yunchan is passionate about connecting communities via the shared joy of creative expression.

“Through writing, reflection, and creative exploration, participants shared stories, memories, questions, hopes, and experiences of what it means to long for connection and to find a sense of belonging,” Ms Yunchan said.

“These collaborative pieces form an exhibition called Longing & Belonging, which is a celebration of the journeys we share, the stories we carry, and the connections that help us find our place in the world.”

The free exhibition is on at Roto House 10 July to 10 August with the opening night Friday 10 July 5.30pm-7.30pm.
