THE Rotary Club of Laurieton has a proud history of supporting communities both locally and overseas, with a significant proportion of the club’s funding sourced from its twice-a-year book sales.
The club’s contributions help facilitate Rotary Lodge, at Port Macquarie Base Hospital, which provides affordable accommodation for patients and their families.
Additional funds go towards assisting Community at 3, a Camden Haven organisation that supports vulnerable residents.
A recent overseas initiative provided funds for toilets and showers at a scout camp near Manila in the Philippines.
Four Laurieton Rotarians attended the unveiling of the facility with the club’s service projects director Ian Jackson telling News Of The Area that the opening of the amenities was an exciting and very rewarding experience.
“The new toilet and shower block will serve the scouts for a long time to come,” Mr Jackson said.
The club’s Winter Book Sale, which is being held at the Laurieton United Services Club, will run from 4 July to 12 July between 10am and 4pm each day.
Friday, 3 July has been designated as an accessible day and aims to allow those with disabilities or injuries the opportunity to attend without the crowds found at the official opening on the Saturday.
Thanks to the generosity of the community there are thousands of good-quality books, puzzles, DVDs and vinyl records available for purchase.
“We have an amazing range of used books for sale from well-known and emerging authors,” said book sale coordinator Philip Town.
“Whether you want an immersive escape, a gripping mystery or romance we have you covered.
“Additionally, there is a huge range of non-fiction books covering categories including animals and birds, Australiana, automotive, trains and much more.
“Come along and buy something to stimulate your mind and assist in contributing to local community causes.”
Entry to the book sale is free and eftpos and cash will both be accepted for purchases.
