WAUCHOPE Branch of the Country Women’s Association (CWA) had a big few days at the Wauchope Show on 11-12 April.
Members shared information about what they do and showcased their handicraft.
Their impressive display spread across the stage and included items made by members – including during their Monday morning meetings in the CWA Hall.
President Doreen Burns, Handicraft Officer Mary McEnalley and 10 or more branch members spent the two days chatting with show patrons.
“We want to thank the community for all their support at the show,” Doreen said.
Mary added, “I am always amazed by the talent at Wauchope CWA.
“Someone is always coming in with something new and different.
“I am pleased with all the wonderful comments about the display.”
One of the stars of the branch is 96-year-old Hilda Saunders who has been a CWA member for at least 50 years, moving to Wauchope from Willawarrin where she originally joined the CWA.
Hilda won a number of first and second prizes in handicraft as well as prizes for vegetables and plants.
“She is an encyclopedia of information on craft,” Mary said.
Mid North Coast Group President Lynn Moore was at the show on Saturday to support the Wauchope Branch.
“They are such a great team and they created a marvelous display,” she said.
Hall damaged
The branch’s success at the Show was marred by an accident on Monday afternoon, not long after members had left their morning craft session.
A utility struck and damaged the exterior wall of the Wauchope CWA Hall.
“This means we may not be able to hold our market and we will lose all the income from the rooms that are totally booked each week,” said Doreen.
“We could be up to six months out of action, so we will need to find another venue and a way to work around all our activities, including our very popular handicraft mornings.
“We will still do morning tea on Anzac Day and will relocate to the Senior Citizen’s Hall.”
