A record 176 artists entered artworks in seven major artistic groupings, with 144 artists being from the local area.

The Oils and Acrylics sections have shown the biggest growth on previous years.

This year’s judge was Susi Muddiman OAM, who has a diverse background and extensive experience as a Director of Grafton, Wagga Wagga and Tweed Regional galleries as well as the Margaret Olley Art Centre just outside Murwillumbah in northern NSW.

Susi is also a former member of the NSW State Government’s Visual Arts Board, Board of Museums and Galleries NSW and was President of the Regional Galleries Association of NSW.

Special awards include the “Peoples Choice”, which is decided by the votes of all visitors.

The many workers who make the Art Prize possible also select a “Packers Award”.

The focus on art within the community has again been extended to young people.

In the main group is a Junior section for 10-12 years and a Youth section for 13-16 years.

Children as Artists workshops are being conducted to expose young creative minds to mixed techniques and opportunities, and so they can explore different media and tools.

The workshops are supported by Bonny Hills Progress Association, with all equipment provided under the guidance of experienced local artists.
