Girl Guides celebrate 100 years of World Thinking Day in Laurieton

WORLD Thinking Day will mark its 100 year milestone when Girl Guides celebrate the occasion on 22 February with a Come and Try event at Bruce Porter Reserve, Laurieton, from 9am to 1pm.

For 100 years, World Thinking Day has united Girl Guides and Girl Scouts across the globe in a shared celebration of friendship, reflection and leadership.

Behind every confident Guide stands a dedicated adult volunteer who helps create safe, inclusive spaces where girls can explore who they are and what they can become.

“At Girl Guides, our volunteers are the heart of everything we do,” said State Commissioner Jo Tonon.

“They mentor, encourage, and walk alongside girls as they learn practical life skills, try new challenges, and discover their own leadership potential.

“Volunteering with Girl Guides is about shaping futures — including your own.”

Girl Guides provides girls with opportunities to learn by doing.
Through hands-on activities, outdoor adventure and community service, girls build practical life skills, form lifelong friendships and discover their capacity to lead.

Adult Volunteers support girls to develop confidence, teamwork and independence through activities including camping, cooking, creative projects and outdoor challenges.
They guide girls as they plan activities, make decisions and contribute to their communities through service projects that encourage compassion and responsibility.

No previous experience is required to volunteer.
Girl Guides provides comprehensive training, ongoing support and flexible opportunities to suit different lifestyles and availability.

The celebration offers women and girls a chance to experience Guiding firsthand and discover how volunteering continues to shape confident young women, one generation at a time.

The event will feature canoeing, orienteering and traditional Guiding activities that honour the movement’s history while showcasing its modern relevance.

Marked annually on 22 February, the day honours the birthday of Guiding founders Lord and Lady Baden-Powell and highlights the global impact of the Guiding movement.
