We all want a slice of the good life

We all want a slice of the good life

DEAR News Of The Area,

PEOPLE are asking themselves: why work in an economy that’s not working for me?

The cost of basic services – food, housing, electricity, healthcare, childcare, education – has all gone up.

Yet our pay packet remains the same!

All after the era of privatisation when we were promised efficiency and lower prices because the market does it better. But does it?

Think about the fact that young people, on average, will spend a decade saving for a deposit on a house that will cost ten times their salary and require a two-income household to pay off over 30 years.

A generation ago, you could go to university for free and an average house cost you three times your wages. You were also probably paying it off on one person’s salary.

This generation will be the first in history to be worse off than their parents. Some folks still have it good.

Our mate Gina Rinehart has it so good, she owns the media, politicians and now wants to give our land away to foreign governments.

I don’t think someone so wealthy should be able to influence politics in this way.

Most people don’t think they can change outcomes, regardless of who they vote for, in any meaningful way.

We all want a slice of the good life.

I invite everyone, no matter how you align politically, to take part in The Good Life Survey.

Have your say at – greeninstitute.org.au/goodlife/.

Together, we can make life better for everyone!

Regards,

Renee Gerlach.
