THE Club Lake Cathie women’s Pennant bowls team were runners-up in the 2025/26 BCiB division four at the Women’s Pennant State Final recently.
The State Final was played at Wiseman Park Bowls Club in Wollongong over three days, with 16 clubs from two divisions taking part.
On the first day, the Lake Cathie women won two challenging games. Team President Ann Butlin said that after winning the first game there were “no nerves, just determination and enjoyment”.
The team won their third game the following day, taking Lake Cathie through to the quarter-finals as the only team undefeated in their Division. The team went on to win their second game, earning a place in the semi-finals.
The semi-finals were played on day three at Figtree Bowls Club, with Lake Cathie recording another win.
During the finals, the team played against a composite team from Wee Waa, Lightning Ridge and Narrabri, who took out the title..
“Even though we lost that one, we were all happy with our efforts, confident we had done our best, and proud of our effort for our Club,” Ann said.
During the presentation, each member of the Lake Cathie team received a runners-up medal, with the club receiving a runners-up flag.
“Next season, our side will move up a grade to division three,” Ann added.
“We’ll be striving for success again.”
