Awards cap off banner year for Queens Lake Sailing Club

QUEENS Lake Sailing Club (QLSC) capped off a packed season with its annual presentation and awards afternoon on 20 June.

Successful initiatives over the year included Saturday morning try-out sessions where young and old were encouraged to come along and experience sailing, with boats and safety gear provided.

The club conducted three series’ over the season, comprising the Spring Pointscore, the Summer Pointscore and the Club Championship.

Weekly entries saw up to 15 boats at a time taking part, with all three divisions tightly contested.

“The juniors sailing in Division 3 displayed versatility and some very impressive skill development in both skippering and crewing as they changed boats and crew positions depending on the weather,” said race secretary Martina Holt.

This year has cemented QLSC’s position as a sought-after country location for sailing regattas.

Throughout the year the club hosted the Taipan States Catamarans, the Maricats Nationals Catamarans, and the MG 14 skiffs.

Local plumber Dave Castleton topped off an outstanding year of sailing, which included being a part of the crew of the Inner Circle in the 2025 Rolex Sydney-Hobart yacht race, by taking home the club’s prestigious Commodore’s Award.

Mr Castleton is passionate about promoting Queens Lake as a top destination for sailing in NSW, and he attributes the growth of the club to the generosity of their sponsors and the significant amount of hard work put in by volunteers.
