Game on for Camden Haven Redbacks’ youngest referees

Young refs with their eyes on the ball: Dusty Monaghan, Jordan Parson and Riley Oxenbridge.

DUSTIN (Dusty) Monaghan, Jordan Parson and Riley Oxenbridge have all blown the whistle on the start of their refereeing careers.

They are among four young boys and one girl who have stepped up to referee for the Camden Haven Redbacks this season.

“Football Mid North Coast runs a young games leader course and that helps kids get into the MiniRoo refereeing,” said coordinator Meg Monaghan.

“From 13 and above you can do another course to ref competitive games.”

Dusty has been with the Redbacks since the Under 6s and is now playing in the Under 11s.

Soccer has always been a big part of his life, with both his Dad and Pop heavily involved in the club over the years.

He said he loves reffing because it helps the club and enjoys “blowing the whistle, helping the younger kids know whose ball it is, calling half time and full time, and teaching them the rules of soccer.”

Dusty also spoke about the Camden Haven Redbacks community and said everyone is “really nice and it feels good being part of it.”

Anyone interested in reffing, or playing for the Camden Haven Redbacks, can contact Meg on 0423 710 302.

“Our kids are at the start of their journey,” she said.

“Every game needs a ref and it’s a great way to be a part of the community and gain knowledge.”
