KEW Country Club (KCC) began life in 1960 as the Camden Haven Golf Club. Today it’s more of a community hub and home to 80 women who play golf there each Wednesday and Friday, and range in age from 50 to 90 years.
Ladies Club President Karyn Buckley joined the club as a junior 45 years ago.
She’s delighted with the changes and improvements she has seen over almost half a century.
“It’s a challenging sport, but I really enjoy golf,” she said.
“I love outdoor activities. Golf is great exercise as well as being a very social game.”
Club manager Dean Noble is passionate about the role the club and its sub-clubs play in the Camden Haven district.
“As a community club, we raise funds for organisations via charity days,” she said.
“We’ll host a Breast Cancer Trials Charity Day for the 13th year on 28 September.
“As well as golfers, we welcome anyone keen to come along to play bowls and show their support by wearing pink.”
The day will include raffles and fun activities – all to support a great cause.
Learn-to-play golf clinics are held throughout the year for beginners, with the next one on 4 October.
Cementing their role as a community hub, KCC has lodged plans to become a designated evacuation centre.
The goal is to have a generator to provide food and accommodation for those who’ve had to flee their homes in emergencies.
